Vitamin C

Your body doesn't produce vitamin C.

Intravenous vitamin C has been studied for its potential benefits in various health conditions.

When taken at appropriate doses vitamin C supplements are generally considered safe.

Vitamin C may be taken by mouth or given by an intravenous (IV) infusion.  When taken by IV infusion, vitamin C can reach higher levels in the blood than when the same amount is taken by mouth.

Some scientifically supported benefits include:

1. Antioxidant effects: Vitamin C is a potent antioxidant that helps protect cells from damage caused by free radicals. Free radical damage can lead to atherosclerosis which contributes to stroke and heart attacks.

2. Immune system support: Vitamin C plays a vital role in supporting immune function, including enhancing the activity of certain immune cells.

3. Wound healing: Vitamin C is involved in collagen synthesis, which is essential for wound healing and tissue repair. Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) is needed to form the collagen in blood vessels, cartilage, muscle and bones.

4. Common cold symptoms: Some studies suggest that high-dose intravenous vitamin C may help reduce the severity and duration of cold symptoms.

5. Enhanced cancer treatment: Intravenous vitamin C has been investigated as an adjunctive therapy in cancer treatment due to its potential ability to selectively target cancer cells while sparing healthy cells.

6. Macular degeneration: Taking oral vitamin C supplements in combination with other vitamins and minerals seems to prevent age-related macular degeneration (AMD) from worsening.

7. Cataracts: Some studies also suggest that people who have higher levels of vitamin C in their diets have a lower risk of developing cataracts.

8. Iron absorption: Vitamin C also helps your body absorb and store iron.

It's important to note that while some studies have shown positive effects, further research is needed to fully understand the extent of these benefits and the specific conditions in which intravenous vitamin C may be most effective. Consulting with a healthcare professional is recommended before considering any intravenous treatments.
